Is your Google search ranking affected by the presence or absence of your contact information? Consider the opinions of the professionals.


Customers and potential clients should contact you by phone or email.

Many functions, such as placing an order or submitting a query or complaint, may all be done using the site’s contact form.

A person’s or organization’s decision to keep their contact information private may have genuine grounds.

The issue is whether or not your Google search results are affected by the presence or absence of contact information.

The Argument: A Google Ranking Factor Is Contact Information.

There are two things to keep in mind:

  1. Your website’s contact details.

Evidence Supporting the Use of Contact Information in Search Engine Results

A citation refers to your company’s name, address, and phone number that appears in numerous web locations.

Citations have been a local search ranking element for more than a decade, and we’ve known this for a long time (likely even before Google launched its own Places pages in 2009).

According to the sixth Local Search Ranking Factors survey report issued in 2012 by David Mihm, contact information was considered an essential element in local search rankings.

An SEO expert, currently the Director of Local Search at WhiteSpark, has been quoted as suggesting that having a local area code is essential for your Place page.

As a small ranking element, it might substantially impact your conversion rate and overall conversion rate since when customers look for local companies, they’d want to discover just this. ”

“Place page characteristics of Business Title, Categories, Phone number and Address are of significant relevance for the establishment of an accurate and reputable profile that will rank highly in your local market for associated keywords,” says James Svoboda, partner at WebRanking. ”

A bit more challenging is determining whether or not a website’s contact information is a ranking factor.

This may be the case since there is some evidence to support it.

“The kinds and amounts of contact information required to vary on the type of website,” said the Google Quality Raters Guidelines (pp. 15). Websites that deal with money, such as businesses, banks, credit card firms, etc., need to provide a lot of information on how to reach them and contact them. When an issue arises, users must ask inquiries or get assistance.

That, however, does not imply that it is a component of the algorithm. Human quality raters are given some standards to follow when it comes to human quality raters.

As a result, it tells us that Google places importance on YMYL websites’ contact information, which is a good thing.

In the context of the YMYL model, the value of a website’s contact information cannot be overstated:

“Important: YMYL sites and other pages requiring a high degree of trust from users will get a Low-quality grade if they lack enough information regarding customer service, contact details, website ownership, or the people behind the material.

On page 42, we see it again:

“…unless there is a solid justification for anonymity, we expect most websites to provide some information about who (e.g., what person, firm, business, charity, etc.) is responsible for the website and who developed the MC.”

Contact Information Is Not A Ranking Factor

According to John Mueller, “Can a lack of contact information on an online news magazine negatively affect its organic search rankings?” at a 2016 Google Webmaster Central hangout.

There is no way for Mueller to comment on Google News since he does not know about it. I don’t believe we look at things like a website’s contact information while doing a standard online search. As a result, we won’t be focusing on it for online search rankings.”

Google may get in touch with you directly if they identify a serious site issue, such as a sitewide noindex, thanks to the presence of contact information on your website.

In addition, he pointed out that, in the case of news sites, not providing a mechanism for users to get in touch with the company makes for an unpleasant customer experience.

Our Opinion: Contact Information Is a Ranking Factor

There’s little doubt about it: Google employs citations (local listings) to rank local businesses.

In 2016, Mueller indicated his skepticism about using a website’s contact information in search engine (organic) results, but that was then.

The Quality Raters Guidelines for 2015 focused heavily on E-A-T and raising the bar for YMYL.

I had previously written on the criteria in 2011, and the emphasis on YMYL in the 2015 version seems to be a refinement of the site rating system Google utilised in that earlier version. Raters were tasked with selecting “exactly one” of the following scores: 1.

  • Vital. \s• Useful.
  • Relevant.

Just a Titch of Relevance

  • Nonsensical. • Inconsistent.

When it comes to evaluating the quality of websites, it seems that Google has evolved enough to know that various sorts of websites need a different strategy.

Danny Sullivan, the head of Google’s Quality Raters Guidelines, said in 2018 that the best way to improve overall core algorithm improvements was to apply the guidelines effectively.

Information about your company’s contact information is a ranking factor for searches that have the potential to affect someone’s health or livelihood for all of the reasons listed above.

Many various algorithms go into determining where a search result appears on the results page of Google. Customers and readers expect to get in touch with websites that contain critical or possibly life-changing information.
